MARCIN MALASZCAK

 

Biography

Born in Poland, Marcin Malaszczak immigrated to West Berlin with his parents as a child. Marcin studied Film Directing at the German Film and Television Academy (dffb) in Berlin. In 2012 he co-founded the film production company Mengamuk Films.
His first feature length film "Sieniawka" premiered at the at the 63rd Berlinale (Forum) in 2013. It won several awards including the Best First Film Prize at FID Marseille and the ARTE Documentary Film Prize at the Duisburger Filmwoche. In 2014 he presented his short film „Orbitalna“ at 64th Berlinale (Forum Expanded). His second feature length film "The Days Run Away Like Wild Horses Over The Hills" had its World Premiere at the 65th Berlinale (Forum).
He recently co-produced "In the Last Days of the City", which premiered at the 66th Berlinale (Forum) in 2016 to critical acclaim and won numerous international awards since then. In 2015 Marcin, together with Verena von Stackelberg, started building a new kind of cinema in Berlin - Wolf. He was responsible for the overall conception from a filmmaker's perspective as well as managing the building site. At the moment he focuses on project management as well as setting up a post production facility at Wolf.

He currently lives and works in Berlin.
